WEST SENECA, N.Y. (WIVB)- High creek levels in West Seneca left room for flood potential on Good Friday and Easter Weekend, but Lexington Green residents said the worst was already behind them.
“All the snow has melted, and the creek is really high right now but I don’t expect any problems,” Lexington Green resident Brian Holleran told News 4.
His home was hit badly by a flood last year
“My total basement got wiped out, got stripped right down to the cement,” he said.
Dozens of large sand bags line Holleran’s back yard, which is right against the creek bank. They were put there after two major flood events, but Holleran says if Lexington Green were to get hit with another one, he doesn’t think they’d do any good.
“Now they’re just an eye sore and I hope they plan on taking them out this coming year,” he said.
News 4 spoke to several other residents in Lexington Green, who all said the big flood fears are gone.
“The big ice jams and things that were in there are all broken up now and the water channel should be able to handle any flow that’s coming down right now,” said Lexington Green resident Michael Machnica.
Like Holleran, he said the neighborhood is out of the woods for this year.
However, West Seneca town officials said in the rare case another flood does occur in the area, residents will get an alert to cell phones keeping them up to date of any hazard.
