Tonight, skies will stay partly cloudy. It will turn cooler with temperatures falling into the teens and 20s. Adding to the cold chill in the air will be wind. Strong southwest wind gusts of 45-50 mph will develop across parts of the Niagara Frontier and northern Erie County by later this evening. This could create very localized power outages. Elsewhere, away from the lake shore, wind speeds will stay closer to the 30 mph range.
Winter officially arrives Wednesday on an uneventful note weather wise. It becomes a bit cloudier and it will still be rather breezy. A weak disturbance should trigger just a few light snow showers Wednesday evening into Thursday. This will clear out by Friday. The next disturbance arrives Saturday with some mixed rain and possibly snow showers. Partial sun is expected for Christmas Day and it will be reasonably mild with a high temperature into the middle 40s. This brings the chance of an actual white Christmas down.
Even though there will be some occasional shots of chilly air, later this week, marks the beginning of a milder weather pattern.
