BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – After mother nature teased us with beautiful spring-like weather last week, it’s back to the winter-like cold and snow. Residents across Western New York woke up to snow, ranging anywhere from dustings, to even a few inches on the ground, as shown by the great Report It pictures sent in to News 4. Of course, this late in the season, most people were not happy about it.

Of those unhappy residents however, many know that’s the price that comes with living in Western New York.

While snowfall this late in the season is not a common occurance, it has happened many times, even later. Digging through the record books, we’ve had some memorable late season snows, in late April and even early May. The most impressive of which occurred on May 7th, 1989 where Buffalo saw 7.9 inches of snow.

Out of the 31 days of May, 21 of them have seen snow at some point since records began. And the latest snow we have on record is a trace of snowfall all the way on June 10th, 1980. So when it comes to Western New York, we just need to go with it.
